ABOUT AIDA GARIFULLINA

Aida Garifullina's First Prize win in the prestigious Operalia Singing Competition in 2013 is usually said to be the starting point of her exemplary career. The daughter of a choral conductor, she had in fact already caught attention at age 5 in a competition on Russian television and first came to Vienna at age 16 to participate in a masterclass with Siegfried Jerusalem. What appeared to be her overnight success was the result of long and thorough preparation: studies in Nuremberg and Vienna were followed by debuts in Verona and St. Petersburg. Garifullina became a member of the Vienna State Opera Ensemble, where she sang a wide range of soprano roles from Mozart to the present day. She has long since had triumphs at the Salzburg Festival and Metropolitan Opera and has made appearances at the Opera Ball in Vienna and the Football World Cup, where she sang in duet with pop star Robbie Williams.
