Britten Pears Arts Announces New Season



The Autumn 2023 season of Britten Pears Arts has been unveiled, showcasing an array of captivating classical vocal performances. Here is a brief overview of the highlights:


On October 6, 2023, mezzo-soprano Anna Huntley and pianist Lucy Colquhoun will present a remarkable recital featuring songs by Schubert, Britten, and other notable composers.

October 13, 2023, will feature the first "Scratch Choir Day," featuring the music of Emma Lou Diemer and Vaughan Williams, under the baton of conductor Ben Vonberg-Clark.


The Britten Pears Young Artists Program for 2023-24 will deliver a recital at the Britten Studio on October 15, 2023, focusing on English song. Prior to this event, there will be a series of masterclasses conducted by Juliet Faulkner, Gweneth Ann Rand, Julius Drake, and Audrey Hyland.


On the same day, October 15, 2023, tenor Allan Clayton, horn player Martin Owen, and the Britten Sinfonia will enchant the audience with their performance of the Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, along with other works. Before the performance, there will be a study morning led by Dr. Lucy Walker, Allan Clayton, and other esteemed artists.


From October 26 to 28, 2023, the English Touring Opera will present two operas, "La Cenerentola" and "The Coronation of Poppea," with more details about the cast to be announced.


On October 27, 2023, mezzo-soprano Lottie Betts-Dean and accordionist Ryan Corbett will take the stage, offering a program featuring music by Monteverdi, Weill, Purcell, and Joni Mitchell.

December 20, 2023, marks the second "Scratch Choir Day," featuring Benjamin Britten's renowned work, "A Ceremony of Carols," conducted by Ben Vonberg-Clark.


To celebrate the holiday season, on December 21, 2023, conductor Dominic Ellis-Peckham will lead a performance of "The Messiah" featuring artists from the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, the Suffolk Ensemble, and the Aldeburgh Voices.


In addition to these exciting performances, there will be open sessions where audiences can engage with baritone Peter Brathwaite and VOICEBOX.
