Statement from Teatro alla Scala

"Due to an illness that will prevent him from conducting the rehearsals scheduled for the next few days, Maestro Riccardo Chailly is unfortunately forced to renounce the new production of Un ballo in maschera on stage from 4 May. Maestro Nicola Luisotti has made himself available to conduct the rehearsals starting next week and the performances of May 4, 7, 10, 12 and 14, while the last two performances of 19 and 22 May will be conducted by Maestro Giampaolo Bisanti. Teatro alla Scala wishes Maestro Chailly a prompt recovery and thanks Luisotti and Bisanti for their availability." -Teatro alla Scala

With Un ballo in maschera by Verdi achieves unprecedented emotional and sensual heights. The new production is the work of Marco Arturo Marelli in his directorial debut at Teatro alla Scala. The quality of the cast is fundamental to the success of this title: the protagonist is Francesco Meli, who adds another portrait to his gallery of Verdi roles at La Scala, paired with a much awaited Sondra Radvanovsky, and Luca Salsi, preeminent Verdi baritone.
