ABOUT SAIOA


In case you don't know much about Latina Saioa Hernandez, here is her biography and her recent endeavors!


She has recently excelled in the international operatic circuit as a new opera star since her debut in the opening season at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Odabella (Giuseppe Verdi’s Attila) on December 7th conducted by Maestro Riccardo Chailly and stage director Davide Livermore, international live broadcast on cinemas and world TV’s, with great success.

In recent years she has performed in several important theaters such as Gran Teatro del Liceu de Barcelona, Melbourne Recital Center, the Opera National du Rhin, Teatro Massimo di Catania, Grand Theater de Genéve, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Regio di Parma, Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, also in Asia with the Korean National Opera, at the Seoul Arts Center and The Muscat ROH directed by great conductors such as Chailly, López Cobos, Noseda, Oren, Garcia Calvo, Ciampa, Severini, Sagripanti, Callegari, Carella, among others.

She played roles such as Maddalena di Coigny in Andrea Chenier, Suor Angelica, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Giorgetta and Nedda, Wally, Aida, Francesca da Rimini, and also bel canto roles such as Norma, Imogene, Zaira, Violetta, Lucia di Lammermoor, Gilda, Leonora from Il Trovatore, Amelia from Un ballo in maschera, Luisa Miller, Mathilde from Guillaume Tell.

She debuted the role of La Gioconda conducted by M. Daniele Callegari, this performance was broadcast in prime time on RAI 5 and was a great success. Also as Gioconda, she has made her recent debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona with M. Garcia-Calvo and stage director Pier Luigi Pizzi, and has been international live broadcast on cinemas. Her debut as Zaira by Vincenzo Bellini at the 2012 Martina Franca Festival was recorded live on CD by Bongiovanni Records.

She recently debuted at the London Royal Opera House, conducted by M. Daniel Oren and performing among great tenor Roberto Alagna as Maddalena di Coigny jumping in with great success while she was debuting the role of Abigaille (Nabucco) at the Dresden Semperoper, and making her debut in Deutschland.

Soon she will make her debut at the Arena di Verona as Tosca and Aida conducted by M. Daniel Oren, at the Berliner Deutsche Oper as Tosca and will return to the Teatro alla Scala next season for three new productions, Tosca for the season opening (with M. Riccardo Chailly), Un ballo in maschera (with M. Zubin Metha) and La Gioconda (M. Adam Fischer), as well as she will participate in a 50th anniversary Gala dedicated to Placido Domingo and conducted by M. Evelino Pido and she will debut in Tokio as Tosca in the tournée of Teatro alla Scala new production staging by Davide Livermoore. She will debute at Parma Verdi Festival, Teatro Regio di Torino and Massimo di Palermo with her recently debuted role, Abigaille.

She is debuting as Lady Macbeth at the Macerata Opera Festival in Italy conducted by M. Francesco Ivan Ciampa, staged by Emma Dante.

Saioa Hernández has received numerous first prizes in international competitions including Manuel Ausensi at the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona in 2009, Vincenzo Bellini in Puteaux (France) 2010, and Jaume Aragall in Barcelona 2010, and she was winner as Best Female Voice of the Year on 2016 in Spain.

She studied with Santiago Calderón, Vincenzo Scalera, Renata Scotto and Montserrat Caballé and she actually studies with tenor Francesco Pio Galasso.
