Opéra de Monte-Carlo Unveils Exciting Lineup for 2023-24 Season



Opéra de Monte-Carlo has recently revealed the highly anticipated program for its upcoming 2023-24 season. Showcasing a diverse range of operas, concerts, and special events, the season promises to captivate audiences with world-class performances and exceptional talent.

Kicking off the season is Verdi's monumental "Requiem," conducted by the renowned Daniel Barenboim. The production will feature an impressive lineup of soloists, including Marina Rebeka, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Michael Spyres, and Ildar Abdrazakov, ensuring an unforgettable performance on November 2, 2023.


Next, the legendary tenor Jonas Kaufmann takes center stage in "Caruso a Monaco," a tribute to the great Enrico Caruso. Alongside Kaufmann, the production will feature actor Alfonso Antoniozzi and conductor Antonio Pappano, with the direction by Davide Livermore. This eagerly anticipated performance is scheduled for November 19, 2023.


"Don Carlo," an opera that showcases the talent of Vittorio Grigolo, Ildar Abdrazakov, Artur Rucinski, Joyce El-Khoury, Varduhi Abrahamyan, and Alexey Tikhomirov, will be presented from November 22 to 26, 2023. Under the direction of Davide Livermore and the baton of Massimo Zanetti, this production promises a gripping portrayal of the timeless masterpiece.

Audiences can also look forward to the enchanting presentation of "L'Enfant et les Sortilèges" by the Académies Lyriques, scheduled from December 19 to 23, 2023. This delightful opera will showcase the talents of young performers as they bring this magical tale to life.


Bringing a touch of theatrical brilliance, "The Phantom of the Opera" will grace the stage from December 16 to 31, 2023. Starring Ramin Karimloo and Amelia Milo, this production, directed by Federico Bellone, promises an immersive experience filled with haunting melodies and captivating performances.


In January 2024, Opéra de Monte-Carlo presents "Giulio Cesare in Egitto," conducted by Gianluca Capuano and directed by Davide Livermore. The cast features the extraordinary Cecilia Bartoli in the role of Cleopatra, alongside Carlo Vistoli as Giulio Cesare, Kangmin Justin Kim, Péter Kálmán, Sara Mingardo, and Max Emanuel Cencic. This operatic gem will grace the stage from January 24 to 30.


Continuing the season's diverse offerings, Brahms' Requiem will be performed, featuring the exceptional talents of Regula Mühlemann and Simon Keenlyside, under the baton of Gianluca Capuano on January 29, 2024.


The double bill of "Cavalleria Rusticana" and "Gianni Schicchi" will provide an enthralling evening of opera from February 23 to 29, 2024. Mariá José Siri, Annunziata Vestri, Yusif Eyvazov, Péter Kalmán, and Elena Zilio will grace the stage for the former, while Nicola Alaimo, Nina Minasyan, and Edgardo Rocha will lead the cast for the latter. Speranza Scappucci will conduct this production directed by Grischa Asagaroff.


Prepare to be enchanted as Rolando Villazón takes the stage alongside the talented Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer for a mesmerizing concert on February 24, 2024. This captivating showcase will feature a repertoire that spans the works of esteemed composers such as Händel, Mozart, Haydn, Donizetti, Verdi, Offenbach, and Tosti, among others. With their extraordinary vocal prowess and artistic interpretation, Villazón and Wüstendörfer promise an unforgettable evening of musical brilliance.


Following this extraordinary performance, the acclaimed Cecilia Bartoli joins forces with the renowned pianist Lang Lang on March 23, 2024. Together, they will present a mesmerizing program featuring compositions by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, and other illustrious composers. Their exceptional artistry and musical synergy are bound to create an enchanting experience for the audience.


Prepare for a delightful operatic experience as Regula Mühlemann and Javier Camarena take the stage in "La Fille du Régiment" from March 24 to 30, 2024. Under the baton of Ion Marin and the direction of Jean-Louis Grinda, this production promises an exhilarating display of vocal virtuosity and comedic charm, showcasing the undeniable talents of Mühlemann and Camarena.

On April 7, 2024, prepare for a unique fusion of music and theater as Cecilia Bartoli and the renowned actor John Malkovich collaborate in "The Master's Voice." Conducted by Gianluca Capuano, this extraordinary production will feature music by Handel, Porpora, Vivaldi, and other celebrated composers. Bartoli's exquisite vocal interpretations, combined with Malkovich's captivating stage presence, will offer a truly immersive and memorable theatrical experience.


In a celebration of Baroque music, Opéra de Monte-Carlo has been invited back to the prestigious Vienna State Opera for a thrilling mini-festival. Starting with "Giulio Cesare in Egitto" on July 6 and 9, 2024, Gianluca Capuano will conduct the same exceptional cast led by Cecilia Bartoli, Carlo Vistoli, Kangmin Justin Kim, Péter Kálmán, Sara Mingardo, and Max Emanuel Cencic.

Following the success of "The Master's Voice," the festival continues with a reprisal of the production on July 8 and 10, 2024. Once again, Cecilia Bartoli and John Malkovich will mesmerize the audience with their unique collaboration, while Gianluca Capuano masterfully guides the musical performance.


Concluding the mini-festival on July 11, 2024, is the dazzling gala performance, "Farinelli & Friends." Conducted by Gianluca Capuano, this grand event will feature a stellar lineup of renowned artists including Cecilia Bartoli, Julie Fuchs, Ann Hallenberg, Sara Mingardo, Regula Mühlemann, Anne Sofie von Otter, Núria Rial, Max Emanuel Cencic, Christophe Dumaux, Péter Kálmán, Kangmin Justin Kim, and Rolando Villazón, among other brilliant talents. Together, they will create an unforgettable musical experience that showcases the mastery of Baroque music.

This mesmerizing opera will grace the stages of Luxembourg, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Köln, bringing its powerful story and exceptional performances to audiences across Europe. Guided by the skillful baton of Gianluca Capuano, the same stellar cast will take center stage, featuring the extraordinary talents of Cecilia Bartoli, Carlo Vistoli, Kangmin Justin Kim, Péter Kálmán, Sara Mingardo, and Max Emanuel Cencic. From October 19 to November 1, 2023, immerse yourself in the passion, drama, and exquisite music of "Giulio Cesare in Egitto."

On November 5, 2023, at the renowned Festival Bach in Lausanne, Capuano will take the baton to conduct a stirring performance of Bach's revered "Magnificat."
