Opéra de Paris Update for 'Romeo et Juliette'

The Opéra de Paris has recently made an important announcement regarding its upcoming production of "Romeo et Juliette." The company has experienced a cast change, as acclaimed soprano Pretty Yende has unfortunately had to cancel her scheduled performance on June 30, 2023. However, to ensure a seamless production, the talented Amina Edris will be stepping into the role of Juliette.

The news of Yende's cancellation surfaced after she took to Instagram following her performance on June 27. In her heartfelt post, she expressed, "You can't sing with a broken heart," and is dealing with a personal circumstance. Yende revealed that she faced a serious family emergency in Johannesburg, compelling her to make an urgent trip to the city. We are praying for Pretty Yende and her family during this time.

Amina Edris, a highly regarded soprano, has previously showcased her vocal prowess at the prestigious Paris Opera in a remarkable production of "Manon." Her portrayal of Juliette at the San Francisco Opera garnered immense acclaim from both audiences and critics alike, who lauded her ability to command the stage. With her exceptional talent and experience, Edris is set to deliver an unforgettable performance as she joins an impressive cast that includes Francesco Demuro, Marina Viotti, Laurent Naouri, and Jean Teitgen. Leading the production with his musical expertise is the esteemed conductor, Carlo Rizzi.
