Opéra National de Paris Cancelled Performances Tonight

The Opéra National de Paris has canceled performances of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and the ballet-opera “L’Après-midi d’un faune”/”L’Enfant et les sortilèges” scheduled for January 20 at the Opéra Bastille and Palais Garnier respectively, according to the official statement on the company’s website.

The Cast for the Rossini opera was to include Xabier Anduaga, Lisette Oropesa, Carlo Lepore, Krzysztof Bączyk, Tommaso Barea, Marion Lebègue, and Florian Sempey in the title role. Carlo Montanaro was signed on to conduct the production by Damiano Michieletto. “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” is still set to be performed on January 22 at the Opéra Bastille.

The cast for Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les sortilèges” was set to star Jeanne Ireland, Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur, Aleksandra Jovanovic, Ilanah Lobel-Torres, Marianne Croux, Ramya Roy and Liubov Medvedeva. Vello Pähn was scheduled to conduct the production by Richard Jones and Anthony McDonald. “L’Enfant et les sortilèges” remains scheduled to return tomorrow, January 21 at the Palais Garnier.

The cancelations came as a result of the strike notice against the French government pension reform. This is the latest in a series of high-profile annulments at the Opéra National de Paris.

Opéra National de Paris advises ticket holders to regularly check its official website for any further notices.
