Pension Reform Strikes Again at Opéra de Paris

The Opéra National de Paris company has announced the cancellation of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” that was planned for January 29, 2020 at the Opéra Bastille. This is due to the continuing pension reform strikes happening all over France.

Rossini’s opera was set to star Xabier Anduaga, Lisette Oropesa, Carlo Lepore, Krzysztof Bączyk, Tommaso Barea, Marion Lebègue, and Ilya Kutyukhin in the title role with Carlo Montanaro conducting.

“Il Barbiere di Siviglia” is 'apparently' still set to be back onstage at the Opéra Bastille on Saturday, February 1, 2020, but we know how that usually goes.

Opéra National de Paris has canceled the last performance of the double bill “L’Après-midi d’un faune”and ”L’Enfant et les sortilèges” at the Palais Garnier.

The cast for Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les sortilèges” included Jeanne Ireland, Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur, Aleksandra Jovanovic, Ilanah Lobel-Torres, Andrea Cueva Molnar, Ramya Roy, Edwin Crossley‑Mercer, Gemma Ní Bhriain, Alexander York, Tobias Westman and Liubov Medvedeva. Vello Pähn was scheduled to conduct the production by Richard Jones and Anthony McDonald.
