The Opéra National de Paris Cancelled Rossini’s 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' Tonight

The Opéra National de Paris has canceled tonight's performance of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Opéra Bastille. This is due to the national strike affecting the entire country.

The cast for “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” includes Xabier Anduaga, Lisette Oropesa, Carlo Lepore, and Florian Sempey and Ilya Kutyukhin alternating in the role of Figaro. Carlo Montanaro was set to conduct the production by Damiano Michieletto.

Lisette Oropesa stated on her social media,

"I am so sad to announce the cancellation of our performance tonight Il Barbiere di Siviglia here [with the Opéra National de Paris]. ⁣The ongoing strikes in France have affected weeks of performances at the ONP and it has been really a tough journey for us while this is going on. But we stand in faith that a solution will be found soon and that we can open our show and bring all of our work to you, our public. ⁣"

The run of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” is still set to continue on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 and will end on February 12, however, we do not know how realistic that is at this point in time. We do hope the production will continue as soon as possible.

The national strike has been affecting the arts community, in particular, the opera industry. We will continue to keep you updated as we get news on the situation in France.
