Piotr Beczała Withdraws from "Turandot" at Opernhaus Zürich

Renowned tenor Piotr Beczała has made the difficult decision to withdraw from his upcoming performances of "Turandot" at Opernhaus Zürich. In a heartfelt announcement on social media, Beczała revealed that he has been battling a severe viral infection for the past six weeks, which has greatly affected his overall health and nervous system. Despite some improvement, his body remains weakened, prompting his doctors to advise a much-needed break for complete recovery and regaining strength.

Recognizing the significance of fulfilling his commitments, Beczała expressed the immense difficulty of canceling performances but emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health, especially considering his extensive schedule in the coming years. Acknowledging that singing is a demanding endeavor requiring optimal physical condition, he conveyed his confidence in a full recovery and eagerly anticipated returning to the stage for his beloved audience.

To fill the void left by Beczała's absence, Martin Muehle has been announced as the substitute performer for the June 27 show. However, the tenor for the remaining shows scheduled from June 30 to July 8 will be announced at a later date.

The production of "Turandot" at Opernhaus Zürich also features acclaimed artists Sondra Radvanovsky, Nicola Ulivieri, and Rosa Feola, with Marc Albrecht serving as the conductor.
