Ukrainian Conductor Sasha Yankevych Joins NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra as Conductor Fellow




The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra has recently appointed Sasha Yankevych, a Ukrainian conductor, as their Conductor Fellow. In this new position, Yankevych will collaborate closely with Chief Conductor Alan Gilbert, participate in projects with the NDR Youth Symphony Orchestra, and contribute to the NDR Discover Music! program.


Yankevych is currently pursuing a Masters degree at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He received training at the Music Academy Bydgoszcz in Poland, as well as the Opera Studio of the Warsaw State Opera and the Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House. Prior to his appointment, he served as an assistant conductor at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, where he gained experience by covering and assisting in productions of notable works such as "Król Roger," "La Bohème," and "La Traviata."


In 2022-23, Yankevych made his debut at the Hamburg Staatsper in a production of "Die Fledermaus." Additionally, he has conducted performances at renowned venues including the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Opera de St. Etienne, the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, and the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, among others.


Yankevych's talents have been recognized in the form of accolades, including the 2nd prize and Orchestra Prize at the 2021 Arturo Toscanini Competition in Parma.

Throughout his career, Yankevych has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Fabio Luisi, Andreas Homoki, Gianluca Capuano, Jonathan Darlington, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Alan Gilbert, Asmik Grigorian, Anne Sofie von Otter, Benjamin Bernheim, Malin Byström, and Adriana Gonzalez, among others.
